The Ballet Nacional de España to perform Electra in Murcia, Málaga, and Madrid in the upcoming tours till the end of the year. It will also take part in the tribute to dancer and choreographer Javier Latorre in Córdoba.

During the month of November, the Ballet Nacional de España will perform Electra at the  Teatro Circo Murcia on the 16th, and at the Teatro Cervantes, on the 22nd and 23rd in the programme Málaga Danza. This show will also close the year at the  Teatro Real de Madrid from 28th to 30th December.

Electra, first performed by the BNE in 2017, is one of the most ambitious shows among its latest productions to date. Not just because it is a complete play, but also because of the number of talents the BNE has managed to bring together.

Playwright Alberto Conejero, author of the award-winning La piedra oscura, has transferred the family feud plot of this well-known Greek tragedy, to 20th century rural Spain in addition to writing the lyrics. Within this aesthetic, Antonio Ruz, with the collaboration of Olga Pericet, has created a contemporary dance choreography rooted in flamenco. Both choreographers are at the forefront of dance in Spain.

Regarding the music, the collaboration of guest cantaora Sandra Carrasco lends it special strength. Her voice acts as coryphaeus to the plot. Moisés P. Sánchez, Pablo M. Caminero and Diego Losada pen the music, which is based on popular songs.

Inmaculada Salomón and Miriam Mendoza will play the lead role along with Esther Jurado in the part of Clytemnestra and guest dancer Antonio Najarro as Aegisthus.

In addition to Electra, the Ballet Nacional de España is staging a revival of two of its repertoire works in the tribute to dancer and choreographer Javier Latorre taking place on 9 November at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba. This way the BNE joins in the celebration of the 50th professional anniversary of the Ballet’s former member, who is also the author of works that are now part of the BNE repertoire, like Luz de alma (1998), Poeta (1998), El loco (2004) and Ángeles caídos (2012).

Miriam Mendoza will dance Chacona, a choreography by Victoria Eugenia ‘Betty’, with music by José Nieto, which was premiered by Maribel Gallardo in 1990. The programme is rounded off with Francisco Velasco’s performance of Zapateado de Sarasate, Antonio Ruiz Soler’s most emblematic solo.
