Biography

Miguel A. Corbacho was eight years old when he started to study dance with Ana Mª Bueno and Manolo Marín, along with Matilde Coral, Javier Latorre and El Güito, among others. At 16 he started his career, which has included his participation in different companies like María Pagés, Javier Barón, Fernando Romero, Aída Gómez or Antonio 'El Pipa'.

In 1999 he joined the Compañía Andaluza de Danza, directed by José Antonio and worked in countless shows choreographed by Manolete, Javier Latorre, Eva Yerbabuena, Isabel Bayón, Alejandro Granados, Javier Barón and José Antonio himself. At the same time, he performed in Manuela Carrasco’s Café cantante in 2001 and performed solo for the C.A.D. in José Antonio’s choreography of Malunó. In 2002, during the ‘Festival de Lorca y Granada’, held in the Jardines del Generalife, he danced the role of Leonardo in Bodas de sangre, directed by Antonio Gades. That same year he was also soloist in the premiere of José Antonio’s La leyenda at the opening of the Teatro Cánovas in Málaga. He performed in many theatres worldwide with both shows in 2002 and 2003.

In addition, he has taken part in the ‘Festival de Jóvenes Valores Flamencos’ in Granada, and in the ‘Arachí Flamenca’ in Sevilla with his own shows. In August 2004, directed by José Antonio and to commemorate the centenary of Dali’s birth, he premiered El sombrero de tres picos and El café de Chinitas for the Castell de Peralada in Santander and San Sebastián festivals, playing the role of the Miller and ‘Bailaor’ respectively, sharing the stage with José Antonio, Chano Domínguez, and Esperanza Fernández.

In November 2004 he joined the Ballet Nacional de España as Principal Dancer where he remained for nearly a decade. In 2008 he was awarded the First Prize for Best Choreography and a Prize for Music Composition at Madrid’s Certamen Coreográfico for his creation and performance of the piece XY un instante en movimiento, with original music by Lehonidas Boskovec.

Since September 2012, together with Elena Algado, he has been artistic director of the company Entredos Ballet Español and has choreographed Silencios rotos. In April 2012 they both presented their co-authored choreography Tiempo de sueños at the Ballet Stars Gala in the 2012 Dance Open International Festival, in St. Petersburg, where they returned in 2013 with Al alma, with the whole company, and with Elena Algado in 2014. In May 2014 he participated at the Opera and Dance Gala on the occasion of the 311th anniversary of the city of St. Petersburg, where he created and danced the choreographies of the arias Toreador, La marcha de los gitanos and Granada, which he performed with the opera singers Elina Garanca and Ildar Abdrazakov. In August 2015 he premiered his latest production with Entredos Ballet Español, titled Las moiras at the ‘Festival del Teatro Romano de Baelo Claudia’, together with Elena Algado, which he continues to tour.

As a teacher, he has given courses in flamenco dance to members of Ballet Nacional de España’s Training Centre, as well as in different conservatoires (Granada, Málaga, Albacete…) and countries (Korea, Singapore, etc.). Since 2013 he has been guest teacher at the Centro Andaluz de Danza.
