World Premiere by the Ballet Nacional at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on 17 December 1999.
Carmen was born in the 19th century and fascinated and seduced everyone in the 20th. All the peoples and cultures have loved and despised her because of what she is: Free.
Carmen is universal but this is the Spanish myth, along with Don Juan, we all envy.
She loves as she pleases without following any of the rules imposed by society.
Seville is her world, she always dies and is reborn in her city to dazzle everyone.
And it will continue to be so in the next century.
Carmen… forever.
