World premiere by the Ballet Nacional de España at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, on 8 December 2018.
This piece was especially created by Antonio Najarro, current director of the Ballet Nacional de España, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the company. A solo with music by David Peña Dorantes, one of the great flamenco piano figures. The Greek myth of Icarus, the man who fled from Crete with his father, Dedalus, thanks to wax wings they built themselves, is the starting point of this choreography. Their fortune was unequal as Icarus wanted to fly too high, despite Dedalus’s warning, and when the sun melted his wings he plummeted into the sea while his father reached Sicily safely.
