Jota de La Dolores, a mi padre

World premiere by Ballet Nacional de España on the 25th of October, 2012, Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid, Spain).

Choreographers

  • Pilar Azorín inspirada en Pedro Azorín

"Plácido Domingo has said that this is “almost Spain’s national anthem”. And really, the emotional waves this tremendous jota gives off are hard to beat:  Nobody anywhere has failed to feel a shiver when it is performed. Especially if the performance bears the hallmark style of Pedro Azorín, creator of a choreography that praised the passion of Bretón’s music and showcased Azorín’s own talent for moving large groups about the stage. His legacy is safely held and his style is carried on by his daughter, dancer and folklore expert Pilar Azorín. There is a reason why Pedro Azorín was named Jotero Mayor del Reino, the grand master of jotas for all Spain, by the best-renowned specialists of Aragón."
