World premiere by Ballet Nacional de España on the 15th of December, 1998, Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid, Spain).
“Poeta (Poet) is the set of sensations and feelings of every human being obligated to leave their roots, their home and to miss, in an almost obsessive way, the sea.
I´m not pretending to make a conventional choreography, but a show in which all senses are concerned.
To sum up, I want each performance of Poeta to be an open window to the sea and a tribute to everyone forced to leave their home and their sea, because of the damned war. The music, composed by Vicente Amigo, lead us through the different stages of the main character: youth, love, war, exile and, finally, the return to home”.
