Schools
An important part of our project is to develop approaching strategies, so we have developed the following to attract new audiences:
BNE al cole
With our two tools, a book and a videogame, in 2015 we developed a strategy to reach children. We named it BNE al cole and it consists of giving Spanish Dance workshops to children in primary schools. The students later visit our headquarters to see a company rehearsal. We have already been to more than 20 schools in the Comunidad de Madrid.
BNE al cole en gira
At present and under the new directorship of Rubén Olmo, BNE al cole has grown to become BNE al cole en gira. In this scheme we offer the theatres where the BNE is on tour the chance to jointly organise the activity with the local schools, including a visit to the dress rehearsal (watch video).
So far, the scheme has been hugely successful with every theatre we have visited joining in. Our first BNE al cole en gira experience was at the Festival de Jerez in March 2020 where it was very well-received. So much so that the Junta de Andalucía awarded the Premio de Honor Flamenco en el aula to Ballet Nacional de España for our pedagogic work and for bringing Spanish Dance and flamenco to young people.
Due to the pandemic caused by covid-19 worldwide, we have been forced to cancel all our activities although we are slowly taking them up again.
Nonetheless, we have kept working at bringing Spanish Dance to the youngest by adapting to the new situation and finding new ways to reach them.
