Manuel Reyes, Belén López and Marcos Morau, director of La Veronal, are the choreographers invited by Rubén Olmo to give the #BNEenMovimientoPerpetuo workshops in July. The workshops were streamed on the BNE social networks on 9, 24 and 31 July.
Covid-19 has forced the Ballet Nacional de España to postpone until October some of its scheduled tours. To keep in touch with the audience, it has arranged to stream #BNEenMovimientoPerpetuo of choreography workshops. This series started on 9 July with an interview and the end of the workshop given by Manuel Reyes to the Spanish company dancers, which was broadcast on the BNE social media. Upcoming live workshops will be held on 24 and 31 July and are given by Belén López and Marcos Morau.
Thus, the Ballet Nacional de España can share the daily activity of the creative team, as it has done through diverse initiatives on the internet. These workshops are not specifically aimed at dance students or professional dancers wishing to learn new movements and styles from the guest masters. Instead, this initiative was set up so that all the viewers can enjoy dance. Although we are only sharing the last day of work, you can still get an insight of the choreographic process and how the dancers tackle new steps as well as the personal style of every choreographer, until they take it in and achieve the beauty from the harmony of movements of the corps de ballet as a whole.
This series is part of the work plan made by BNE director, Rubén Olmo, who seeks constant development and the creative evolution of the dancers, by offering them other choreographic languages that make them grow as performers. Inviting major Spanish dance creators to collaborate with the BNE is also part of the director’s commitment to the private dance sector and the crisis it is facing as there has been no activity in the past few months.
The first choreographer to come to the rehearsal studio at the home of the Ballet Nacional de España in Madrid was dancer and musician Manuel Reyes. A flamenco teacher at the Amor de Dios School in Madrid, he has built a very personal style, his own way of expressing existential themes through flamenco. He was followed by Belén López, a precocious bailaora who started her international career after winning the Italian TV contest Bravo Bravissimo, and who has blended her flamenco dancing force with other rhythms, performing on tablaos and at theatres. The last #BNEenMovimientoPerpetuo workshop brought in choreographer Marcos Morau, Premio Nacional de Danza 2013. As director of the dance company La Veronal, he represents the Spanish danza-theatre avantgarde, fusing contemporary dance with opera and dramaturgy.
If you missed the workshops live the videos are available on the Ballet Nacional de España Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube profiles.
