Until September, when we can resume the tours that were postponed due to Covid-19, the Ballet Nacional de España wishes to keep in touch with the Spanish dance audience through its social networks, uploading new contents via streaming.
On 8 June, the Ballet Nacional de España creative team resumed rehearsals at the Madrid base, observing the hygiene recommendations and the social distancing established in the INAEM good practice guide. To guarantee safety on returning to work, daily activities are spaced out, and dancers have been split up in groups so that there are no more than six persons in the changing room and no more than 12 at the rehearsal studio at the same time.
As the 2019/2020 had to close before expected, we have put together an extraordinary programme that we will share on our social networks. We are starting on 20 June with the BNE participation in the 'Volvemos a los escenarios' initiative, organized by the National Institute of the Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) on the occasion of the European Music Day. The BNE has made available via streaming some twelve choreographies of its repertoire, including works by Antonio Ruiz Soler and Victoria Eugenia, apart from creations by its director, Rubén Olmo, by Maribel Gallardo and by some of the dancers. Finally, BNE musicians and cantaores performed La leyenda del tiempo, the well-known theme by Camarón de la Isla and Ricardo Pachón on verses by Federico García Lorca. Also, BNE principal dancer Francisco Velasco took part in the programme broadcast by the Teatro de la Zarzuela dancing Antonio Ruiz Soler’s Zapateado de Sarasate.
Choreography workshops
The Ballet Nacional de España is keen on sharing the creative team’s activities via different online initiatives. Under the name 'BNE en Movimiento Perpetuo', the Ballet Nacional de España will make available part of the three workshops that choreographers Manuel Reyes, Belén López and Marcos Morau will give dancers at the BNE headquarters in July.
This initiative follows the lines adopted by BNE director, Rubén Olmo, who seeks the constant development of dancers and the creative evolution of our team. Inviting external choreographers to collaborate with the BNE is also good to broaden the choreographic languages of dancers and boost their evolution as performers, and it is also a commitment to artists in the private sector who are facing a crisis as there has been no activity in the past few months. This way the BNE opens its doors to outstanding dance creators in Spain so that they can make the most of our resources.
