World premiere by the Ballet Nacional at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on 13 December 1985.
An emblematic piece by Enrique Granados (with orchestration by Ernesto Halffter), from his Doce danzas españolas, is the base for this solo created by Victoria Eugenia, “Betty”, one of the most endearing figures of our dance, which she knows, loves, and is able to convey. Danza IX –the score is called “Mazurca” or “Romántica”– is a classic work, elegant, fine, and graceful; a piece in which a graceful and musical dancer can shine and where the castanets feature prominently.
