World premiere by Ballet Nacional de España on the 18th of September, 1996, Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid, Spain).
Ballet based on a free adaptation of The little gypsy girl by Miguel de Cervantes. This story is one of the twelve that are included in the “Exemplary novels”, a book which shows the narrative matureness of the author. The little gypsy girl integrates elements of the courtly love, chivaltry and pastoral literary genres. A nobleman, Juan de Cárcamo, falls in love with a gypsy girl, Preciosa. This is an unacceptable affair in the XVII century´s society, but he is ready to leave everything back to live with her. After many difficulties, we discover that Preciosa was kidnapped by gypsy people when she was a baby girl and she is actually the daughter of aristocrats.
